Popularity - Why Do You Elude Me?
I have
never in my entire life been popular. Forever, the nerd or the geek in school, sitting alone at lunch and running home from school to avoid getting thrown in a dumpster. Even now, online amongst scores of other geeks, popularity still eludes me.
What does someone have to do to be popular? I'm funny, I'm smart, I can spell, and I'm not
Wil Wheaton. What more do you want?
Alright, I'll freely admit that my web design sucks, that I talk a whole load of garbage, and I have nothing worthwhile to say, but damnit, at least I update.
On that note, tell all your friends (wait, what friends!) about me!
Damn my Cheapness!
Following on from what I posted about my weird voice....
I read
WWdN and so I've been listening to his audblog over the past few days. I thought it would suck, but it is actually okay. I checked out a few other audblogs and most of them were totally lame. I figured that maybe I would terrify all my readers (yeah, just you mother) by making an audblog post. But, like I just, I'm a totally cheapsake and would not waste (ahem, spend) money on that. But them it struck me - I could record a message with my sound recorder on my PC, save it as an mpĀ£ file, and them upload it and post it. (I'm a master scammer!) Unfortunately, the fatc that I'm totally cheap backfired on me and ruined my genius plan. When I got my new computer I got a new mouse and speakers, got the tower made up specially, but used my old keyboard and got a second-hand monitor from a friend of a relative. Of course, it is so old, that there is no place to insert a microphone. Damn! Looks like you're spared.
What's Going On (?)
Today I read a cool book called "Secrets of Lost Empires" which was based on a TV series where they tried to rebuild ancient monuments like Stonehenge, the Pyramids, Egyptian obelisks, the roof of the Colluseum, and some Inca things inluding a hanging bridge over a mountain gorge main from rope which the local community annually repair in a huge ceremony. It was pretty interesting (though not too challenging as I finished it within a few hours of starting) but it was the first thing I've read in a few weeks because I've been too stressed, so it was great to be reading again. For anyone who thinks that reading isn't fun - get down to your library and open your eyes!
But the
bad thing for today (and every day
has to have at least one
bad thing) happened with a telephone call. Now, I suck at speaking on the phone (plus I have a weird and pretty freaking voice, as you'll hear if I ever decide to try audblog - only kidding, I'm too cheap!). So I very reluctantly pick up the phone when it rings this afternoon and there is no one else at home and the person phoning asks to speak to my mother. What do I do - I tell the caller, "She's not here right now". What else was I supposed to do? Well, the caller just hung up on me, not a word to explain who she was and why she was calling. Confusing huh? So if you phoned me (yeah, right!) at about 2.30pm today, then you're a jerk.
Well, two new videos just arrived for me this morning - "Casablanca" and "North by Northwest" - so I'm going to go and watch one of them now! Oh, and don't think I don't know that you're laughing at my choice in films!
Winamp Radio
I'm listening to a classic rock station on
Winamp online radio right now. Usually I'm not a fan of the radio because here in the UK it totally sucks - there is so much talk, even on the music shows, and all the stations play the same pop gabage. But a while ago when I first downloaded the new version of Winamp I checked out the radio feature and found that it was actually okay. I could do this more often...
If you know any great online radio stations then
e-mail me and let me know.
Update: Classic rock radio sucks. I'm a country fan at heart! (Don't tell anyone...) The best station so far it "The BEAR".
The Little Things
Recently, I've started to notice the little things that make up my life and my experiences, and some of them are actually pretty interesting. This morning I took a walk through town and down by the beach with my camera and took some pictures of some of the sights around my home town that I always notice and look out for. I stood on the railway bridge and took photos down the line in both directions. I took photos of this old seaside tearoom which is all boarding up. The weird thing was, I thought it was completely abandoned but for the first time ever I saw people on the balcony. Don't ask me what they were doing - I wasn't about to gatecrash their gathering - but it caught me by surprise. I went up steps and peering into the building where the window was uncovered and it actually looked like it was used. Now as a tearoom, obviously, but there were noticeboards with recent photoes and painting and stuff. Then I walked through this really beautiful park and took a picture of the side of a building that used to be a hotel but closed down and was turned into flats/apartments. The letters with the hotel name were still visable but faded and it looks really cool. Then I walked back along the road and took some pictures of this garage with all these old cars outside that are totally wrecked. It just looked sorta interesting...
But the whole thing made me think, and I realise that I actually like noticing the little things better than pondering the big things.
This afternoon I went with my dad and my sister to a loch (that is a huge pond for non-Scottish people) and cycled around it. It was pretty fun, although I need beter suspension on my bicycle!
I also blew some more money on old videos from eBay. Last week it was Citizen Kane and Some Like it Hot, this week North by Northwest and Casablanca. They are fun to watch though - just some of the little things...
Fine Tuning
Well, I've been messing around with this blog and the whole FTP thing for a while, and I think I finally have it laid out right. If, by a large miracle, anyone is reading this blog, then please e-mail me (click on "Contact" in the table to your left) and let me know what you think so far.
Well, I'm going to go and get something to eat then go to bed, so I'll see you later...
First Post
Ahhh...the momumental first post. What am I supposed to do here? I mean, I don't need to tell you about myself, I already made a page about that, and about my website, and my FAQ page, and my links page. You don't know anything about me, really, so I can't just start talking about my life. I'm seriously at a loss as to what I should be writing about. Well, here goes...
This morning when I woke up it was pouring down with rain. Then by the afternoon the rain had stopped and it was incredably hot and sunny. We were driving into town and all the roads and fields had steam rising off them. It was a pretty cool sight.
Well, that sucked, I'll freely admit it. But the important thing is that I'm the only person who'll ever visit my website, so it doesn't matter.
